AVATAR takes us to a spectacular new world beyond our imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on a journey of redemption and discovery, as he leads a heroic battle to save a civilization. The film was first conceived by Cameron 14 years ago, when the means to realize his vision did not yet exist. Now, after four years of actual production work, AVATAR delivers a fully immersive cinematic experience of a new kind, where the revolutionary technology invented to make the film, disappears into the emotion of the characters and the sweep of the story. Since the colossal worldwide success of Titanic in 1997, and to the best of my knowledge (but I could be wrong), James Cameron has concentrated his directing talents on (brilliant) documentaries such as Expedition: Bismarck, Ghosts of the Abyss and Aliens of the Deep, but has not made a new movie so far. 
But it's about to change! The director of The Terminator and The Abyss is coming back with his new movie called Avatar, a live-action 3D sci-fi adventure revolving around an ex-Marine who finds himself in the middle of hostilities on an alien planet filled with exotic life forms. As an Avatar (a human mind in an alien body) he finds himself torn between two worlds, fighting for his own survival and that of the indigenous people.
Avatar is set to be released, for my birthday, on December 18th 2009, on both traditional and Imax 3D theaters. No doubt, this movie is going to be big and awesome, so stay turn for future details! August 3, 2007 - Michelle Rodriguez (Lost) and Stephen Lang (Tombstone) have joined the cast of James Cameron's 3-D animation/live-action epic, Avatar. The Fox project is currently filming in L.A. with Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Wes Studi and CCH Pounder starring.
